Team GB medal success sees coverage double for partners Samsung
Sportsbeat’s coverage of the 2014 Winter Olympics and Paralympics broke new records – doubling the audience our service reached in 2010.
During Games time of the Olympics, we supplied over 400 individual stories, which were published by 71 different newspapers.
This coverage reached a combined readership of nearly 25 million and totalled more than 100,000 words.
This is in addition to a package of preview coverage produced from kitting out and other media opportunities before the Games.
We also moved and shared over 200 review/preview web stories on the Team GB website and social media channels, reaching over 600,000 Twitter followers and one million Facebook fans. Our content was also extensively carried across the Eurosport/Yahoo! network.
Our Paralympic coverage, which started in January with a series of feature profiles, was carried in excess of 40 newspapers, reaching a combined readership of 15.3 million, according to our media monitoring service.
In 2010 our reporters reported on just one medal – a skeleton gold for Amy Williams. In 2014, our staff on the ground in Sochi covered ten (four at the Olympics and six at the Paralympics).
They witnessed Team GB’s first-ever medal on snow (Jenny Jones, snowboarding) and first-ever gold medal at the Winter Paralympics (Kelly Gallagher, alpine skiing).
